I am currently a third year studying History at the University of California. My research focuses on Afrikan textile production as a mode for self-liberation. My current research project is entitled “Afrikan Textiles: Reclaiming Stolen Histories, Identities, and Technologies through Dress Practices.” The project examines West Afrikan textiles before colonization, highlighting how Afrikan textiles and dress practices embodied identity and culture in Afrikan societies. I conceptualize my research as a mode for African self-liberation through the reclamation of textile arts. The research informs recreation and innovation. I utilize a mixed method by researching what I design, and designing what I wear.
